Finding Diversity and Unity within the Body of Chirst

April 25, 2007 :: Posted by - Adam :: Category - Audio Posts, Community

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to preach for Youth Sunday. I decided to teach on 1 Corinthians 12:12-26, which deals with the body of Christ. The emphasis of this text is on unity and diversity within the body and how we need both rather than focusing on one or the other.

Doing good and right in God’s sight

November 21, 2006 :: Posted by - Adam :: Category - Audio Posts, Growing Together, Shifting Our Thinking

Sunday before last I had the opportunity to teach and chose to preach on 2 Chronicles 14:2:

And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God.

Since being “good and right in the eyes of the LORD” seems like an important thing to shoot for, here are six steps toward that goal:

Step 1: Make a decision
“And he did evil, for he did not set his heart to seek the LORD.” – 2 Chronicles 12:14

If we don’t choose to follow the Lord we will do evil because that is our nature.

Step 2: Follow God alone
“He took away the foreign altars and the high places and broke down the pillars and cut down the Asherim” – 2 Chronicles 14:3
King Asa removed all the pagan alters from the land, and we must remove the idols in our lives.

Step 3: Minister to others (bear fruit)
“and commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to keep the law and the commandment.” – 2 Chronicles 14:4
King Asa helped others to follow the Lord. This is the first step in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Step 4: Be a person of peace
“And the kingdom had rest under him.” – 2 Chronicles 14:5b
Christians are to be people of peace. Peace is the fruit of righteousness (Isaiah 32:17). Christ gives us His peace (John 14:27).

Step 5: Build while you can
“He built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest. He had no war in those years, for the LORD gave him peace.” – 2 Chronicles 14:6
We all know that life is not always peaceful, but when we are enjoying times of peace we need to be diligent to build and prepare for times of hardship.

Step 6: Remember that everything is God’s
“And he said to Judah, ‘Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought him, and he has given us peace on every side.’ So they built and prospered.” – 2 Chronicles 14:7
King Asa attributed all his prosperity to God and realized that his preparations meant nothing unless God was in control.

There are certainly more steps to be taken toward being “good and right”, but I think these steps are a great start. So…here is the message:

Wisdom from a last year’s freshman

August 06, 2006 :: Posted by - Marc Lewis :: Category - Audio Posts, Culture, General, Growing Together

This past week I had the chance to talk with my friend Luke who is getting ready to go back to the big University of Georgia. As I listened to Luke talk about life as a freshman, it made me think of my life now as a 32 year old. Take a listen to this and share your own wisdom if you want. It is a very short interview. Do you have a focus? Are you submitting to leadership? Do you meditate on God’s Word? Do I? Should we? Why?…
