The 14 Deadly Sins… Seriously?

Begin Sarcasm…
Yesterday the Catholic church decided that those old seven deadly sins just weren’t cutting it anymore. I guess they figured that they put the original seven out there so long ago that people might need a few more to follow in order to stop this moral decay and whatnot. So, they put out a list of seven more deadly sins, raising the bar to a record 14! Here’s the list and what I think about each one:
- Polluting – I’m all about the environment, but I don’t think the highway to hell is driven by smog.
- Genetic Engineering – As in sheep, or people, or plants? I’m just asking because my sheep / sunflower hybrid is almost ready…
- Being Obscenely Rich – Ok, this one seems odd, mainly because the Catholic church is obscenely rich. I mean, they are one of the largest land owners in the world! I’m just sayin…
- Drug Dealing - Man! Now all those “good Catholic” drug dealers gotta just quit? What is the world coming to?
- Abortion – I think this one is already covered under the original rule against murder.
- Pedophilia – Nothing sarcastic to say here. Pedophiles need a good, old fashioned beating. Seriously.
- Causing social injustice – Can someone tell me what this means? This one must be for the dude thinking to himself, “You know, I think today I’m going to turn the whole world against those stinkin slow Sunday drivers. In fact, I’m going to make it so they have to walk everywhere, while the rest of the world drives by them really fast, in the rain, and splashes water all over them.” Is that causing social injustice? I’m just curious…

dude, that obscenely rich thing is priceless. I guess solomon was a poor guy huh? And how about the rest of the Kings in the old testament.
All that aside, have you ever been into a european cathedral or to the vatican? This is absolutely REDICULOUS!!!

i started typing a comment explaining some growing beliefs i have about the roman catholic church. let us just say that after typing for a few minutes i decided some things are better left unsaid until i’m prepared to fully own my words and their backlash. for now i’ll simply say: i have concerns.
although, i will say that i think you brush off the social injustice one too quickly. the worldwide structures that oppress the least of these has to become more and more of a focus of the church, and it’s a fairly overwhelming thing to consider how our lifestyles can indirectly contribute to the oppression of others, especially considering that jesus said that what we do to the least of these we do to him.
