I’m glad that even when I suck, Jesus doesn’t
Last weekend I had the opportunity to speak at a local Disciple Now retreat. I really felt like the first night went great. I could tell that I connected with the kids, I was funny (which is always a plus), and I taught the truth of the Bible.
But, the second night as I stepped off the stage from teaching I felt like I had bombed. I just didn’t feel like it connected with the kids, it was kind of a low moment. However, that moment didn’t last long because as they worshiped, one and then two and then an entire row of kids (and many more) made their way up to the stage to kneel and do business with God. God was moving in their lives!
Even though I felt like I didn’t connect with the students, God didn’t have any trouble connecting. I have to say, its a great relief to know that when I teach the power to change lives lies in God’s ability and not my own.
P.S. – Just in case anyone is wondering, when I teach I don’t do emotional appeals for people to come forward. I think that it is dishonest and dishonoring to God to play on people’s emotions and talk them into following Jesus. Jesus is worth following without me having to coax someone into it.
