A bad day in the life of a Church Planter / Web Designer

Note: I’m going to vent about how bad and annoying yesterday was, and then I’m going to write a few positive takeaways from it. Just thought I would give you a heads up…
I started yesterday meeting a good friend to work at 6am. It was a good workout. Then I got ready, left Decatur and booked it up 75 to get to Cartersville for a meeting about a website, a 48 mile trek. The website meeting lasted 10 minutes while standing in the cold (and snow) in the parking lot of a movie theater. One of the oddest meetings I have ever had, the guy was a nice guy though.
Then I headed back to Decatur (48 miles) for a meeting at 11am. It took more than 15 minutes to find a parking spot (which is really unusual) and I was almost late. At 11:15am I was standing in the cold wondering where the guy I was meeting was, so I called him. Turns out he was running late and had to reschedule for today. Ok.
I had been hoping to meet a friend for lunch before a big meeting with a big website client, but that didn’t pan out. So I ate lunch by myself. On the up side, lunch was really good. Then I headed out to a meeting near the airport, about a 15 mile drive.
I got to that meeting, my friend that is partnering with me on the site got there and we waited. And we waiting some more. And then a little more. It was fun hanging out, but it was just to two of us. Later I found out that my client had been in the hospital all day. So I wasn’t annoyed at her or anything, it just contributed to an already disappointing day.
Then I drove through the city (and traffic) to Kennesaw to teach gymnastics (36.6 miles). That went well, but I was glad when I was done so that I could come home to my family (15.6 miles). I got home and spent some great quality time with my kids before bed. After they were in bed I got to hang out with my wife, which was awesome. And then…
My laptop died. Won’t turn on. Great!
It was a bad day. But here are some take aways:
- It is such a blessing to have my family to come home to after a day like that. It reminds me of how important a good support network is.
- Sometimes things just don’t go as planned. That’s cool, I just have to deal with it and move on. No sense in being mad about it.
- Always have a phone consultation with a client before I meet with them about a website. It is likely that a face to face meeting isn’t necessary.
- The sandwich I ate at Java Monkey (the local coffee shop) was a ton better than what I could have gotten next door at Atlanta Bread Company (a chain).
And Last:
- When life gives you lemons, take them, cut them in half, squeeze them to get the juice flowing, and then throw them back at life. Try to hit life in the eyes, lemon juice in the eyes is not pleasant. That’ll teach life to give you lemons!
Wow, that was random and stupid. Sorry, but it amused me.
I hope that my day, and yours, is better. Later.
