God came in the flesh (the reason for the season)

This morning in the West Ridge staff meeting Matt Wilmington shared something that struck a chord with my heart that I would like to share as we begin this season.
In Daniel chapter 2 king Nebuchadnezzar demands that the magicians and enchanters to interpret his dream without him even telling them what the dream was, basically asking them to tell him his own dream and interpret it. The response from the magicians is significant, they say “The thing that the king asks is difficult, and no one can show it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.”
The unbelieving magicians served gods that were not accessible to them, that had never lived among them and had never interacted with them on a personal level. But, we serve the God that stepped out of His eternal glory, took on the form of man, endured the worst pain and suffering that man can endure and conquered death on our behalf.
Christmas is not so much the celebration of the birth of a baby, as it is the celebration of the Creator of the Universe that loved us enough to be born into a world of sin and to die to conquer it. This season we celebrate that God came in the flesh. How amazing, how wonderful, how humbling.
