What do you think about Joel Osteen?

I get asked this question a lot, mostly by people that actually watch Christian TV. I think Driscoll takes a pretty good approach to dealing with this question. What do you think?

I loved that you posted this. The very end, when he says that he (Osteen) doesn’t address the sin problem is the exact issue that I take with Osteen. Every person created is a child of the Most High God… it’s a matter of accepting what Jesus did for us so that we can start acting like it. It seems like that’s a step that Osteen tends to leave out.
Secondly, I feel as a Christian I am walking in freedom every day – but it’s the freedom to live a life not a slave to sin, not always freedom from struggles in areas like finances, health, and relationships. Paul told us to consider it joy when we are tested by trials of many kinds, and in those, our faith would mature and we would be more like Jesus… sounds to me like a person living a perfect life like Mr. Osteen doesn’t need to be tested because he’s already perfect. Maybe that’s why Satan leaves him alone…
Thanks again for posting this.

Uh, he’s a fraud. Why is it that only Christians (OK, So-called Christians) are too dumb to see thru this fake? It is like the same bunch that keep Kook-Vision on the air with the Pervy Old Man and his Purple-haired wife-in-name-only. What is WRONG with us?

Mr. Driscoll has completely missed the point. I am sorry I watched as much of his video as I did. Wish he had left Osteen on.

After seeing this video – a month or so ago – I went out and decided to form my own opinion. At that time I really hadn’t heard much of Osteen’s stuff. After watching 3 Osteen services…I gotta say – I agree w/ Driscoll. Osteen, in my opinion, is rather dangerous in his “teachings”.

Richard….I had hope you’d have a more solid opinion. I bet Joel means well. I bet that his work touches people and gets them closer to God. My mom loves him, and someone like her needs an uplifting message. But to give him more credibility than that….is near blasphemy. It’s a gospel that puts the ephasis on US rather than the grace given by God. HE is the reason we can be ANYTHING. To say that we deserve anything other than condemnation and eternal seperation from God is BLASPHEMY. HE is the focus, not us. It’s like JFK said….it’s not what God can do for us….but what can we do for GOD.

When Truth is removed Grace is diminished. If Grace is all that you teach, you are missing half the Gospel… in the same vein if only Truth is preached, legalism abounds and Grace is diminished.
Christ came as full of Truth and full of Grace. There MUST be a balance of both, or really there wasn’t a point to Christ coming at all.
And exactly everything Annie said…
