John Piper slams the prosperity gospel

Every time I watch this video I can feel the tears well up in my eyes and the anger rage in my heart. I feel so much regret over the false teaching that too often replaces the good gospel of Jesus, and I feel intense anger towards the people that will wllingly teach something so blatantly unbiblical to people so tender and in need.

Although I agree with Piper, I would say that’s an unfair representation of what some prosperity gospel proponents believe. It’s kinda like saying that no one should believe in Calvinism because they believe in once saved always saved, where you just say a prayer and you never have to do one other thing your whole life … pretty unfair to those I know who sincerely believe in Calvinism, even though I might not be on board with the whole thing either.
I’ve also heard some extreme generalizations made about Baptists that some have made … and those generalizations have facts to back them up based on my experience and others … am I to make a video slamming all Baptists and their vulgar spread of their own denomination? I wouldn’t.
I know the harm that the prosperity gospel can perpetuate … but I also know that some sincerely believe it to be a help to others to give them hope of breaking out of a cycle of poverty, empowering them to do things like provide for their family and other things.
Peace.
