Speed Read through the Bible

My goal is to read through the Bible…fast. The tool that I am using to do it, spreeder! Marc linked to this a few posts back and I would encourage you to go and check it out.
The big idea behind learning to speed read is first learning to read without reading “out loud” in your head. Your mind works many times faster than you can talk, so if you read silently but verbalize every word in your mind you are slowing down your reading dramatically. Spreeder can help you to stop doing that. Then, you can learn to read multiple words in one glance, and eventually read entire sentences in one glance.
I think that we need to read the Bible in at least two ways. First as a story where we read through it visualizing how everything is connected together and understanding how each book impacts the other. Speed reading helps with this. The other way we need to read the Bible is to study passages in depth. To do this well reading commentaries is important. Speed reading can help with this as well.
With seven books left to read before the end of summer, learning to speed read is near the top of my priority list. It’s going pretty well so far…
