On the blog Our Sovereign Joy Scott quotes Voddie Baucham in dealing with parents discipling their children. Voddie is very outspoken on this issue, for which I’m glad. Parents need to realize that it is not the church’s job to teach their kids everything about the Bible, Christ and Heaven. This job falls to the parents first and the church is to add to that.

I teach my students (and anyone else who will listen) that the church is a lot like a vitamin. If you decide one day to stop eating food and instead just take vitamins you will become sick and likely die. Vitamins are meant to act as a supplement to food and add nourishment. This is also true with the church. The church adds to the spiritual nourishment that should already be happening in the home.
