For My 27th Year

Today I turn 26 and will begin the living of my 27th year on earth. For some reason this year I have been reflecting more on life, family, spiritual living, productivity and the nature of how life works. As I start this new year I find myself wanting to make a few resolutions in order to first, walk more closely with Jesus, and second, to continue working toward being the best husband and father I can be. So here are a few of my resolutions:
Resolved:
- To wake up at 5am each morning, spend time in the Word, work out and start the day early so that I can get home and focus on my family.
- I have already been doing this and so far it has been a tremendous blessing. This way I always have a consistent time in the Word, and I am forcing myself to exercise so I feel better and am more healthy.
- To be more intentional about how I live
- This sounds like a very dramatic statement, but I mean for it to guide my basic every day actions. I want to be more intentional about spending quality time with my wife and children (not just time, but quality time). I want to be intentional to encourage my wife on a daily basis. I want to be intentional to clean up every mess I make plus a little extra in order to help keep a clean home. I want to be more intentional to write more regularly, especially on this blog. I think you get the idea.
- To start biking
- This is a part of being intentional about exercise. I plan to start riding long distances 2 to 3 mornings a week to stay fit (and it’s a great way to spend time with God).
- To begin writing a book
- This is a somewhat grandiose idea, that’s probably why I like it. I want to write a book encouraging Christians to first, realize that there is much more to being a Christian than simply attending church and second, to encourage believers to move into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Notice I said I will begin writing the book, I’m sure it will be a project of massive proportions.
- To remember that I am unfinished, that God is still working in, through, and on me, and will one day make me perfect when I enter into His presence for eternity.
If any of you loyal readers out there are thinking of making some resolutions for the New Year, please share them as comments below. Let’s grow together and encourage one another…
